HC quashes land acquisition of three Greater Noida villages

Land acquisition has been cancelled in the villages of Deola, Shahberi and Asadallapur by the Court.

The order was passed by a specially-constituted three-judge bench comprising justices Ashok Bhushan, S U Khan and V K Shukla on the writ petition of 491 farmers from more than a dozen villages in the district who have challenged the acquisition of more than 3000 hectares of land by the State Government.

Passing its verdict, the High Court said: “No new construction will be allowed on the land until master plan 2021 comes into effect.”

The Court has also directed the UP Chief Secretary to appoint officers to conduct a probe into the land acquisition.

The Noida Extension area is spread over 4,000 acres and estimated 2.5 lakh houses are being built there. Out of this, about one lakh units have already been sold by builders.

On September 12, the High Court had started hearing on writ petitions challenging acquisition land by the authorities in Greater Noida.

More than 400 farmers from over 12 villages have moved the high court challenging acquisition of their land. The Court had reserved its judgement for today.
