This is the second family feud in Indian realty business after ugly public spat in Hiranandani family.

Raheja, in his petition, claimed that he was ‘constrained’ to approach the court due to the ‘shocking’ behaviour of his son Sandeep and daughter-in-law Durga. He has even pleaded the court to stop his son from proceeding with board meetings from September 25 onwards.

He has accused his son and daughter-in-law of denying him the medical attention he needs at home and leaving him to ‘die’. Gopal has also alleged that the duo along with Durga’s parents is illegally trying to take control of the 25 companies, which he started and still owns.

The 78-year-old builder blames Durga’s parents for instigating his son, who helps run the empire, to disrespect an earlier family agreement.

G L Raheja’s real estate group is worth Rs 11,000 crores, which was started over five decades ago. The group has given India its first apartment hotel in Powai and Mumbai its first departmental store, Shoppers Stop. His companies are among the biggest private owner of land in Mumbai and possess properties in other parts of the country.
